'John Wick 4' comes to Austin for SXSW surprise screening

Austin audiences will get an early look at "John Wick: Chapter 4" during a South by Southwest Film & TV Festival secret screening Monday evening.

Variety first reported the news last week, citing unnamed sources. SXSW did not confirm what film is featured at this year's secret screening, but said it would become clear through a social media campaign. The film festival lists a "Special Screening" for 5 p.m. Monday at Paramount Theatre.

A text went out Monday morning to those signed up for a digital market campaign for the movie directing Austinites to Congress Avenue and Eighth Street for a chance at one of 20 tickets to a 5 p.m. screening of "John Wick: Chapter 4." Tickets were first come, first served, and only available for five hours.

Fest-goers with Platinum and Film badges get priority entry for film screenings. Other badges and wristbands get secondary access. According to the Paramount Theatre website, single tickets are not on sale for Monday's secret screening.

The latest installment in the Keanu Reeves franchise sees the hitman travel the globe after figuring out a way to defeat the High Table and regain his freedom.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, Reeves stars alongside Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Rina Sawayama and more. The film will be in theaters March 24.
