Mar. 22—Johnson County baseball results from Tuesday, March 21:

Godley 10, Hillsboro 0

The Godley Wildcats started District 10-4A play on the right foot with a 10-0 win in five innings over Hillsboro.

Owen Roever struck out eight with two hits and one walk allowed in a complete-game shutout for the Wildcats, who improved to 16-1-1 on the season.

Godley scored a run in all five innings: two runs in the first and second innings, one in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth for the run-rule walk-off.

Offensively, Tate Grimsley, Lucas Ponce, Jaydon Spurlock and Roever each collected two base hits as the 2 through 4 hitters went 8-for-12 with seven RBIs combined.

Grimsley was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and one run, Ponce was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs and one walk, Spurlock was 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Roever was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one walk.

Godley will visit Hillsboro at 7 p.m. Friday then the Wildcats will host Graham at 1 p.m. Saturday in a non-district battle.

Waxahachie Life 8, Alvarado 2

The Alvarado Indians fell behind 5-0 through three innings and couldn't recover in an 8-2 loss to Waxahachie Life in each team's District 10-4A opener.

The Mustangs scored at least one run in all six innings they went to bat, but Waxahachie Life managed only five base hits on the night as it took advantage of four Alvarado errors in addition to drawing 10 walks.

The Indians used three different pitchers but all three issued at least two walks in two innings of work.

Meanwhile, Life's Mitchell Mamola struck out seven with four hits and one earned run allowed in a complete-game outing for the Mustangs.

Alvarado will try for the series split when the Indians host Life at 7 p.m. Friday.

Grandview 14, Whitney 4

Fueled by an eight-run fifth inning, the Grandview Zebras opened District 17-3A play with a 14-4 victory in five innings over the Whitney Wildcats.

The Zebras got things started early on a leadoff double by Mason Metzler, who scored on an RBI triple from Jacob Vernon. Ely Reeves made it 2-0 with an RBI groundout to score Vernon.

Grandview made it 3-0 when Kason English hit a leadoff double then stole third base before scoring on an RBI groundout by Kade McGonigal.

After Whitney got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning on a two-out RBI single from Gunner Peacock, the Zebras took advantage of two Wildcat errors to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan Shaw scored on a passed ball then Vernon hit a two-run triple to make it 6-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, Whitney made things interesting by cutting the deficit down to 6-4, but the Zebras exploded for eight runs in the home half of the fifth inning for the run-rule win.

Grandview drew five walks, one hit-by-pitch and two hits, including a walk-off two-run triple by English to end the game.

Vernon went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs to lead the Zebras offensively. English was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs and a walk, Metzler went 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk, Shaw went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, and McGonigal was 1-for-2 with two runs, one RBI and one walk.

Reeves struck out seven against seven hits and two earned runs allowed in a complete-game outing for the win.

The Zebras will go for the series sweep of the Wildcats when the two teams meet at 7 p.m. Friday in Grandview.

Rio Vista 15, Kopperl 0

Rio Vista moved to 15-1-1 on the season and 4-0 in District 15-2A play with a 15-0 win in three innings over Kopperl.

The Eagles hung nine runs in the bottom of the first inning and the rout was on.

Brandt Folwer and Daniel Miser combined for the three-inning no-hitter. Fowler struck out five with one walk in two innings for the win while Miser struck out all three batters he faced in the third inning.

Rio Vista's first 4 batters collected multiple hits: Weston Fenn was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, Kaden Morgan was 2-for-2 with three runs, one RBI and a walk, Jett Macklin was 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, and Taylor Pritchett was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs. Hayden Davis went 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs and one RBI.

The Eagles will host Milford at 7 p.m. Friday.

Burleson 3, Mansfield Timberview 0

The Burleson Elks moved to 4-2 in District 8-5A play with a 3-0 win at Mansfield Timberview.

Kyndall Cassidy struck out 10 with two hits and one run allowed in a complete-game shutout to lead the Elks.

Cayden Byrd went 3-for-4 with one run and Jess Ackerman was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk to pace Burleson offensively.

The Elks will host Mansfield Timberview at 7 p.m. Friday.

Burleson Centennial 5, Mansfield Summit 0

Burleson Centennial improved to 3-1 in District 8-5A play with a 5-0 victory over the Mansfield Summit Jaguars.

Carson Taylor was stellar for the Spartans as he held Mansfield Summit to only two hits with nine strikeouts in six shutout innings. Kenny Fritz worked a perfect seventh inning to finish off the shutout for Centennial.

The Spartans plated four runs in the second inning before adding one more in the seventh.

Tristan Menchaca was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, Zach Applegate was 2-for-3 with one run, and Michael Marron went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run for the Spartans.

Centennial will try for the series sweep when the Spartans host Timberview at 7 p.m. Friday.
