All-Johnson County softball teams loaded with depth, elite production

Jul. 9—In what was arguably the most successful season collectively across the county for any sport, the Pinnacle Bank 2022 All-Johnson County softball team is the deepest to date and loaded with talent all over the place.

Nine teams from Johnson County qualified for the playoffs and eight of those went on to reach at least the second round of the postseason. Additionally, four county teams claimed district championships this season.

While the Times-Review strives to give proper recognition to the top players in the county in any sport, we also try to keep the All-Johnson County teams as prestigious as possible, settling in somewhere between all-district and all-region status. With that said, there were numerous players who received all-district honors that missed out on All-Johnson County softball recognition this season simply because of the overall success the county had this year, making this year's team one of the deepest and most talented of any all-county team ever assembled.

Consider this: there were five different softball districts (8-5A, 14-5A, 11-4A, 9-3A and 12-2A) that were home to 10 Johnson County teams this season. Of those five districts, there were a total of 38 superlative awards combined across each all-district team, and 23 of those — or 60.5% — came from Johnson County teams. That's how successful softball was in Johnson County this season.

Leading the way on the 2022 All-Johnson County softball team are the Burleson Centennial Lady Spartans with 10 selections across superlative awards or first- and second-team honors.

"These girls work their tails off and it's nice to see them get rewarded and recognized for their efforts and talents," Centennial Coach Shannon Sullivan said. "To have the most selections on the All-Johnson County team, especially this season with so many great teams and players in the county, is a great accomplishment. Plus the fact that none of our players chosen for all-county are seniors bodes well for next season. Going four rounds into the playoffs without one senior, it's impressive what they did this season. It was nice to see them get awarded for all the work they put in."

Right behind Centennial is Grandview with nine total selections, including a county-high six superlative awards.

"While we had a bunch of great individual talents, what made this team so special was it wasn't just one or two people standing out," Grandview Coach Leigh Ebner said. "They're out there for each other and they get it done for each other. Not only are they talented but it's their work ethic, their attitudes, everything about them that sets them apart. They're great kids and it was fun to be out there with them. I've been coaching for a long time and that goes a long way. When you enjoy being out there, it makes things easier.

"These girls are just awesome. They're always putting in extra work. They don't just do it when we're at practice. There would be times we'd have a playoff game and there are girls hitting before we leave or hitting after we get back. They all put the extra time in and it benefits them, obviously. If you put the work in, it's going to help you. And it 100% helped these girls. If they continue to do that, and they will, it's a bright future for them."

Rio Vista is next in line with seven selections as the Lady Eagles had seven players put up ridiculous numbers throughout the season.

"I thought it showed how much of a team effort it was this year to have seven players make the All-Johnson County team," Rio Vista Coach Keith Johnson said. "Everybody contributed on the team this year and everybody knew what their role was and they're being rewarded for playing their roles."

Rio Vista leads the All-Johnson County first team with four selections: senior Autumn Adrin, senior Lybbertie Hutchison, freshman Abby Pritchett and junior Randi Wilson. Adrin was one of the county's most productive players with a .566/.667/.736 line with 28 RBIs and 35 runs. Hutchison slashed .442/.546/.636 with 38 RBIs and 34 runs; Pritchett hit .407 with a .704 slugging percentage with 32 RBIs, 29 runs and four homers; and Wilson slashed .566/.667/.736 with 20 RBIs, 32 runs and 14 steals.
