Johnson's Address to Ukrainian Parliament Met With Ovation

Ukraine’s parliament erupted into applause after UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed politicians there on May 3, becoming the first world leader to do so since the start of the war in Ukraine, according to the Kyiv Independent.

Footage posted to Twitter by Ukrainian politician Volodymyr Omelyan shows President Volodymyr Zelensky and politicians giving Johnson a round of applause, while several people wave British flags.

“This is Ukraine’s finest hour, that will be remembered and recounted for generations to come,” Johnson said via video link.

“Your children and grandchildren will say that Ukrainians taught the world that the brute force of an aggressor counts for nothing against the moral force of a people determined to be free,” he added.

In his speech, Johnson announced a new £300 million military aid package.

He said in the coming weeks the UK would provide Ukraine with anti-ship missiles, anti-aircraft systems and armored vehicles to evacuate civilians from areas under attack and to protect officials. Credit: Volodymyr Omelyan via Storyful
