Johor Sultan to meet President Halimah, PM Lee during 3-day visit to Singapore

SINGAPORE — Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar will be meeting Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during his three-day official visit to Singapore from Wednesday (20 July) to Friday, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

Sultan Ibrahim will be accompanied by his wife, Raja Zarith Sofiah, crown prince Tunku Ismail and his wife, Che' Puan Besar Khaleeda, Johor chief minister Onn Hafiz Ghazi and other state officials.

President Halimah Yacob and her husband Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee will also meet Sultan Ibrahim and his wife. Sultan Ibrahim will also meet Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

On Wednesday, Sultan Ibrahim will be conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws by the National University of Singapore at the Istana in recognition of his contributions to boosting ties between Singapore and Johor.

Sultan Ibrahim and his wife will also have a new orchid hybrid, the Dendrobium Ibrahim Zarith, named in their honour.

Sultan Ibrahim will also visit the site of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Woodlands North terminus, Sembawang Air Base, and the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute.

The visit comes two months after Lee and his wife Ho Ching received top awards from Sultan Ibrahim in Johor.

Lee received the First Class, Grand Commander of the Order, Dato’ Sri Paduka Mahkota Johor (SPMJ – Order of the Crown of Johor) – the highest honour in Johor. Ho received the First Class, Grand Commander of the Order, Dato’ Sri Mulia Sultan Ibrahim Johor (SMIJ – Order of Sultan Ibrahim of Johor), the first Singaporean recipient of the award.
