Join the Christmas Bird Count at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary

Dec. 25—CONNERSVILLE — Residents can delight in spotting their favorite birds and contribute to an important national community science survey through the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary near Connersville.

During the national survey, the National Audubon Society mobilizes more than 80,000 volunteer bird counters in more than 2,600 locations in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America to track the health of bird populations, according to an Audubon press release. Birders will not only look for birds at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary, but the surrounding Fayette County area.

Participants will meet at Brooks Hall at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary at 7:30 a.m. to be assigned areas. A free lunch will be provided afterwards. Those interested are welcome to continue birding in the afternoon. The 15-mile diameter circle is centered at MGBS and roughly is bordered by Harrisburg to the north, Everton to the east, Laurel to the south, and Orange to the west.

For information on participating, contact Pam Herrmann (pherrmann77@gmail.com) or Joanne Guttman (dickguttman@comcast.net) by Dec. 26.
