Join Food Now for a fundraising day at the BG Bird Gardens
Say hello to feathered friends while fighting hunger in our community by spending a magical day at the bird gardens.
Food Now, a Desert Hot Springs-based organization that has been battling local food insecurity for more than 30 years, will hold its annual fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 4.
“Take Someone Under Your Wing” will take place at the BG Bird Gardens, home of Lindi and Geno Biggi. Special guest and master of ceremonies Cindy Williams (of “Laverne and Shirley” fame) will be joined by comedic magician Tom Ogden from L.A.’s Magic Castle.
Guests will help choose the Feathered Friend of the Year from the amazing exotic birds living in this iconic Palm Desert estate.
"Helping families with weekly groceries is essential for a healthy lifestyle," said Dana C. Johnson, Food Now's executive director. "This is not a luxury — food is a necessity. The benefits of a stable source of healthy and nutritious food are unquestionable. But there are so many more benefits that come when a family is food secure. There is an economic benefit: When a family can save money on their food budget, they become more housing secure by being able to make a rent or mortgage payment. Their jobs are more secure by being able to pay for gas or car repairs so they can get to work. Their health and well-being are improved by being able to afford medical care and prescriptions. Money saved by being food secure can be reallocated for education, clothing, supplies and so much more."
The event will include valet parking, passed hors d’oeuvres, bloody marys, margaritas, sodas and lunch. The cost is $150 per person. Children under 12 are free.
