How to Join Sephora’s New Squad of Beauty Influencers — Even Without a Huge Following

Applications are being accepted right now.

There are all different kinds of social-media influencers these days, from tech to travel. But if you love makeup, hair, and skin care, the ones that look like they're having the most fun are definitely beauty influencers. They get to try the latest products before anyone else — typically while lit by the very best ring lights on the market — and in addition to free cosmetics, some even pull in a pretty penny for featuring certain brands on their Instagram grids. It's a pretty sweet gig — one you might love to have if you just had tens of thousands of followers, right?

Well, it turns out Sephora is making influencership (not a word, but go with it) possible for anyone who loves beauty, regardless of their following. The brand has announced that it's accepting applications for its 2019 #SephoraSquad, which it's calling "a different kind of beauty-influencer program."

"We celebrate the most authentic and inspiring voices in the digital beauty space. We value unique, unfiltered, sorry-not-sorry storytellers, no matter the number of followers they have," reads the application website, sephorasquad.com. "That’s why the program offers long-term partnerships — a 2019 paid contract with Sephora — to those who share their beauty truths."

That's right — those picked for the program will get paid for their participation. But you won't have to spend that money on products because it comes with free "hauls of products." And the perks don't stop there. The site also states that "we’ll connect #SephoraSquad influencers with some of our products, resources, networks of brands, and industry experts to help you reach your next level." So even if you're starting out as a virtual unknown, the coaching and exposure Sephora is offering could mean you end up needing to turn off your new-follower notifications lest your phone explodes.

Applications are being accepted now through March 6. That involves linking up your Instagram account, answering some questions, and asking your current followers "to vouch for you by leaving testimonials on a unique webpage we’ll make for you." Semifinalists will be announced on March 15, and on March 29, we'll learn who has been chosen for the 2019 #SephoraSquad.

If you're 18 or older and have a love of beauty that deserves a fanbase, you can start the application process at sephorasquad.com.
