Join us as the Mensch Foundation hosts a film screening Wednesday

On Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 4p.m. the Mensch International Foundation will host a special showing of “Four Winters,” one of the 144 films in consideration for the 2023 Oscar best documentary feature.

The Mensch Foundation recognizes people of integrity and honor as "mensches." The word “mensch” in Yiddish is “someone to admire and emulate, someone of noble character."

At a time of increased Holocaust Denial and antisemitism it is of utmost importance to show documentary films about what actually happened at a time when most of the world kept silent and the train tracts were not bombed by the Allies.

The foundation will be honoring director, writer and producer Julia Mintz with the Mensch Award at Tristone Cinemas in Palm Desert. There will be a Q&A after the screening.

"Four Winters" is a stunning film that captures and weaves together the stories of eight of the last surviving Jewish Partisan fighters, out of more than 25,000. The film holds a wealth of never-before-seen photos and historic footage. These courageous women and men are given the stage to tell their story uninterrupted, “…allowing solely the Partisans themselves to pass forward this sacred collective history. It was a race against time which began as a passion project over a decade ago,” says Director Julia Mintz.

New Michelin guide is missing local eatery

While I haven’t been to all the restaurants listed in the new guide (and to be frank, you won’t get me into a pet-friendly anything), the one conspicuous error of the judges was to ignore the glaringly obvious: The Tropicale.

Watch out for scammers

Earlier this week, I fell victim to a computer scam. After contacting the Federal Trade Commission, I was advised to alert local media about this. The FTC has filed a case against Microsoft Security, and will try to recover my money. The FTC will also work with appropriate law enforcement agencies. I learned that there are many scams out there, that older individuals are targeted, and that the scammers are very, very good.

Be very careful about answering pop ups on your computer and don't respond to the by making a phone call to an organization that you think is legitimate. If you have a pop up, turn your computer off. In my case, the pop up was still there, after turning the computer off, and I couldn't get rid of it. I should have called an IT person, instead of calling the phone number. Please don't make the same mistake I made.
