Apparently for JoJo Siwa, coming out to her mom was less challenging than telling her about the change to her signature bow.

The children’s pop star and Nickelodeon actress told Instagram’s head Adam Mosseri on Tuesday during Instagram and Facebook’s Creator Week that she is wearing the iconic bow in her hair a lot less than she used to.

The change for Siwa was difficult since she has “worn a bow for obviously the last 18 years of [her] life.”

“I just had my 18th birthday and it was right around my birthday that I realized, ‘I kinda wanna do my hair different today,’ " Siwa said, adding that she “came out to the world and to my family and essentially to myself.”

“It just felt like the right time and to do something different and to do something maybe a little bit more mature or a little upgrade,” she continued.

Upon making such a significant change in her own personal life, a decision that was the focal point of her brand, Siwa’s mom Jessalynn asked if was “harder to come out to me or tell me what you wanna wear your hair different?”

“I was like, ‘It surprisingly was harder to tell you that I wanted to wear my hair different,’ " Siwa responded to her mom.

While Siwa is giving her bows a rest for now, she won’t be saying goodbye to them forever.

The bow is still a part of my life,” Siwa said. “I still love bows, I forever will. They’re who I am, but maybe I won’t wear it every day.”

In May, Siwa posted an Instagram video showing her in a bounce house with her hair down in what came as a shock to many of her fans.

In another Instagram video that was originally posted on TikTok, Siwa dances with her normal look in front of the camera with “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” playing in the background. After a transition, Siwa revealed her long blond hair styled with no bow.
