'Joker' Producer Says There's No Sequel Planned – Yet
Todd Phillips' Joker movie was hyped as a one-and-done deal, but then it made an incredible amount of money at the box office and apparently a sequel was then in the works. Except it wasn't. We think. That's it, right?
That seems to be the state of affairs, at least currently. Producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that she's heard nothing concrete about a follow-up.
"I've not been involved in any conversations," she said. "I would think that I would be one of the first to know."
We're not really sure where Warner Bros is going to go with its Worlds of DC label of films now that a relatively low-budget, not very comic-booky comic-book movie did over $1 billion at the box office.
Director Todd Phillips recently said that he initially pitched a number of movies to studio executives, including one Joker movie by him, and two others by other directors. But, like a Joker sequel, talks haven't reached the point where the studio is seriously considering greenlighting.
Speaking last month, the filmmaker said: "Obviously, sequels have been discussed when a movie that cost $60 million made $1 billion, but we have not had any serious conversations about it." We'll let you know when that inevitably changes.
