'Joker' sequel filming wraps up filming. Belleville is ready for its closeup

The sequel to the "Joker" has officially wrapped up filming.

The movie made headlines recently after converting the old Essex County Isolation Hospital into the infamous "Arkham State Hospital" last month.

"Joker: Folie à Deux" star Lady Gaga posted on Instagram "That's a wrap" with a photo of herself as Harley Quinn. Gaga stars opposite Joaquin Phoenix who is reprising his Oscar-winning role as the Joker.

The filming caused a stir in Belleville. Mayor Michael Melham posted on Facebook as filming began: "I’m proud to say that Belleville has been warmly received by the motion picture industry. ... it’s a big deal for Belleville."

Director Todd Phillips also took to social media Wednesday to announce the conclusion of filming and thank the stars of the film: "That’s a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom."

While the cast and much of the crew will take a well earned break, the work continues for Phillips who wrote: "Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together."

The film is slated to be released on Oct. 4 2024.

The old Belleville hospital won't be the only familiar location you will see in the film. Lady Gaga was spotted as Harley Quinn across the river amid a sea of protestors outside a Manhattan courthouse while filming scenes for the movie.

The filming caused a commotion in New York City as a swarm of extras held signs "Free Joker" and yelling during filming. The site was at the same lower Manhattan courthouse where former President Donald Trump was arraigned this week.
