Jon Favreau has addressed whether the new Star Wars movie will feature Grogu.

With the Star Wars Celebration in full swing in London, fans have been treated to a whole host of exciting new announcements.

Among them was the news LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy made that three new Star Wars movies are on the horizon including a movie helmed by The Mandalorian director Dave Filoni.

Set in a time between the prequel and sequel trilogies, just like The Mandalorian, Filoni's movie will explore the "escalating war between the Imperial remnant and the New Republic".

As most of the Disney+ shows take place within this time frame, Filoni's film looks set to bring together many characters and stories from the various shows – but will they tie in fan favourite Grogu aka Baby Yoda?

Speaking to Yahoo! Entertainment, Favreau and Filoni teased whether or not Grogu would be making an appearance on the big screen.

"I don't know what I can talk about yet," Favreau said. "But certainly everything is being discussed."

When asked if there was the potential to explore Grogu's past in a movie and to learn about his heritage of which fans know little about, Favreau said: "We don't know a lot, that's right. Yes, it's by design, honestly – because it's something George Lucas always chose not to reveal too much of and I think it's a part of what makes the character of Yoda still so special and unique. So we have chosen to honour that to this point."

While Favreau remained tight-lipped about a Grogu feature length appearance, Filoni gave a clearer response when quizzed if he would like to further explore Grogu's parentage: "No, I don't think so. Not for me. Mando's his family."

The Mandalorian season 3 is streaming on Disney+, with new episodes on Wednesdays. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
