Jon Green and V Fixmer-Oraiz win Democratic nomination for Johnson County Supervisor seats

With 100% of precincts reporting Tuesday, incumbent Jon Green and V Fixmer-Oraiz won the Democratic primary race for two seats on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors.

The raw vote count is 8,495 votes (69%) for Green, 8,199 votes (67%) for Fixmer-Oraiz and 7,827 votes (64%) for Zimmermann. There were 67 write-in votes cast. Each voter was allowed to vote for a maximum of two candidates.

Republicans Phil Hemingway and Jammie Bradshaw ran uncontested for the two seats in their party's primary election on Tuesday.

Green is a resident of rural Johnson County near Lone Tree and the only incumbent Supervisor on the ballot. He was elected last year in a special election to fill a vacancy left by former Supervisor Janelle Rettig.

Fixmer-Oraiz is a resident of Iowa City and the CEO and founder of Astig Planning, a firm that focuses on climate change impacts and social and racial justice. If elected in November, they would be Johnson County's first openly transgender elected official in history.

Zimmermann is a resident of rural Johnson County just outside Solon. He works as an air quality chemist at Linn County Public Health and has previously worked at the University of Iowa State Hygienic Lab with a focus on water and air quality.

Green and Fixmer-Oraiz will be on the ballot in November running against Bradshaw and Hemingway, the two Republicans.

Bradshaw is a drone operator and U.S. Air Force veteran from rural Johnson County outside of Lone Tree.

Hemingway is a Johnson County native and owner of Phil's Repair in Iowa City. This is his fifth time running for the Board of Supervisors.

Election results are unofficial until certified by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors next week.
