Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow has revealed he is in “self-isolation” after returning from Iran, which has experienced an outbreak of coronavirus.

Snow was in the country to cover their recent elections, and explained that he is following doctor’s advice by staying in his London home for 14 days as a precaution against the virus.

“I’m in self-isolation as a result of having been to Iran for the past four or five days and I’m therefore not really supposed to congregate with crowds or go anywhere where there may be people,” he said.

Coronavirus has so far claimed at least 12 lives in Iran, with some reports suggesting the death toll could be as high as 50.

The outbreak has come to dominate Iranian news, while schools, universities and cultural centres across 14 Iranian provinces have been closed.

“I’m sitting at home for two weeks,” Snow continued. “I woke up this morning feeling rather tired, but that was from the trip. But we weren’t actually anywhere near where the main virus outbreak has occurred.”
