Jonah Hill's former girlfriend, professional surfer Sarah Brady, has alleged the actor was "emotionally abusive" during their time together.

The pair began publicly dating in 2021, with Hill confirming their romance in October and the former couple making their red carpet debut at the Don't Look Up premiere in December that year. However, it's unclear when their relationship came to an end.

Posting on her Instagram Story multiple times on Friday and Saturday (July 7 and 8), Brady published a series of screenshots from text message exchanges alleged to be between herself and Hill.

"This is a warning to all girls," Brady wrote. "If your partner is talking to you like this, make an exit plan. Call me if you need an ear."

She shared the statement alongside a screengrab of a message alleged to be from Hill asking her to take down any surfing photos from her Instagram, and to change the cover image on a surfing video which he claimed showed her "ass in a thong".

After Brady appeared to reassure Hill she'd removed "all the posts", the 21 Jump Street star allegedly told her it was a "good start" but she didn't "seem to get" his point.

"It's not my place to teach you. I've made my boundaries clear," Hill is alleged to have replied. "You refuse to let go of some of them and you've made that clear and I hope it makes you happy."

Another screenshot from the alleged text exchange appeared to show Hill insisting that if Brady wants to surf "with men", "to model", and post pictures of herself "in a bathing suit", among other things, then he's "not the right partner" for her.

In a follow-up post, Brady explained her decision to share the screenshots publicly.

"I too struggle with mental health but I do not use it to control [people] like he did to me," her post read.

"It's been a year of healing and growth with the help of loved ones and doctors to get back to living my life without guilt, shame and self-judgment for things as small as surfing in a swimsuit rather than a more conservative wetsuit.

"And I'm sure there's still much more healing from this abuse ahead of me."

"Sharing this publicly now because keeping it to myself was causing more damage to my mental health than sharing it could ever do," Brady added, in another post.

"I think fame can put people in an echo chamber of viewpoints, which can enable emotionally abusive behaviour," the surf instructor explained.

Summing up her feelings in a final post, Brady said that being an "emotionally abusive partner doesn't mean they're a terrible person" and noted that these issues often stem from an individual's own past trauma.

"At the same time, it doesn't mean it's OK," she added.
