KSNF/KODE – A Joplin area man who lived a violent life of crime, became the victim early Thursday morning, killed during an attempted robbery.

Trevin Dicks, 21, was one of two men shot to death just after midnight Thursday (2/22) in a Springfield neighborhood.

This is the most recent booking photo of Dicks from the Missouri Department of Corrections in December 2023.

Dicks was charged with second degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon for allegedly firing a weapon into a vehicle earlier this month in Carthage, nearly striking 3 people in a vehicle.

This is Dicks from his Joplin Police Department arrest in 2019 when he was charged with first degree kidnapping and first degree robbery. He was convicted of those charges and sentenced to ten years in prison. However, he was released after only 120 days.

After his release, he repeatedly violated conditions of his probation according to court records. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest recently and were planning to send him back to prison.

In that 2019 case, Dicks and two other men held a victim at gunpoint, made him strip naked, and then brutally assaulted him. Police found a recording of the incident after it was posted on “Snapchat.” All three men pleaded guilty in that case.

But today, it was Dicks and Reggie Carey, 19, of Springfield, who were gunned down in a Springfield neighborhood.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and saw two people running from the area. A short time later, police say two men were spotted running from a convenience store, getting into a car parked in the middle of the street near the crime scene. Police say they pulled that car over and found three weapons inside.

The Probable Cause Affidavit says one of the suspects charged in the shooting is Tarrin Dicks, Trevin’s 19-year-old sister.

She and another man, Izaiah Crabb, 19, are both charged with two counts of second degree murder.

Police say Tarrin Dicks, along with her brother and the other victim, arranged the robbery and the men were shot multiple times after pulling weapons on the person they planned to rob.

Dicks and Carey were transported to a Springfield hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Police say more arrests in the case are likely and they ask anyone with information to contact them at 417-864-1810. If you want to remain anonymous you can call Crime Stoppers at 417-869-tips (8477), or online at p3tips.Com.
