Joplin falls to minus 15 degrees this morning

Feb. 16—Joplin dropped to minus 15 degrees early this morning — the second lowest temperature ever recorded for Joplin by the National Weather Service station in Springfield, based on records that go back nearly 120 years.

The coldest temperature, according to the NWS, was minus 21 in 1905.

Joplin has hit minus 15 a couple of times before, in 1989, and minus 11 as recently as 2011.

The high today is expected to be 12 degrees.
