Joplin police looking for Ford Explorer in fatal hit-and-run accident

Jan. 10—Joplin police are looking for a dark-colored Ford Explorer believed to have fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident Monday night on West Seventh Street.

The 55-year-old pedestrian who was struck by the SUV at 6:05 p.m. near the crosswalk at Gray Avenue was identified as Eva M. Havelock, Joplin. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and died of her injuries on Tuesday.

Capt. William Davis of the Joplin Police Department said the SUV involved is believed to be a Ford Explorer, likely a 2002-2005 model, black or similarly dark color. It would have damage to its front grill and be missing a headlight assembly unless already repaired.

Anyone with information regarding the accident under investigation by the department's major crash team should call 417-623-3131.
