May 13—WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, and two other House Republicans have requested documents from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention pertaining to alleged "political meddling" by a national teachers' organization.

In a letter to CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, Jordan, the ranking minority member on the House Judiciary Committee, and Reps. Virginia Fox and Rep. James Comer, ranking members of the Education and Labor and Oversight and Reform committees, respectively — said input provided to the administration of President Joe Biden from the American Federation of Teachers on school reopenings runs counter to established science.

"We write regarding the troubling recent report that the CDC has allowed Democrat special interest groups to influence CDC guidance on school re-opening for in-person education," the GOP lawmakers' letter states.

"Despite your assertion that the CDC's guidance is 'free from political meddling,' recently released emails reportedly show that the CDC has been taking its cues from teachers' unions instead of following the science."

The letter alleges that changes to CDC guidelines "made at the request of the American Federation of Teachers appear to depart from the established science, which the CDC and the Biden Administration claim to follow."
