Jorja Smith Cruises Through the Stages of Summer in Her “Be Honest” Music Video

Jorja Smith’s brand-new single — titled “Be Honest”— dropped on Friday (August 16), and the accompanying video is the perfect, danceable ode to end-of-summer flings and heat waves.

For the song, which is Jorja’s first since the release of her album Lost & Found last year, the British singer teamed up again with Nigerian singer Burna Boy, who she previously collaborated with on the song “Gum Body,” off of Burna’s last album.

“This is my first bit of new music for a while, and so I hope everyone loves it as much as I do!” Jorja tells Teen Vogue. “And the video was so exciting to be a part of — enjoy!”

The video follows Jorja and her girls, sweltering in the middle of a steaming-hot day in a walk-up apartment, trying to stay cool and not miss out on the fleeting moments of summer. They have midnight jumps in pools, dance in jewelry stores, and even cruise on motorcycles while Jorja sings about having no time for indecisive potential partners.

“I can show you somethin’ you can run to / When I finish, you’ll be feelin’ brand-new / Wanna be somebody you can run through,” Jorja croons over the song’s beat. “I’m lookin’ for that, I’m alive / One time, no care, big vibes, slow back / Catch feels, get high / If you make your bed, then you can lie / Just please don’t waste my time.”

The song and video mark a more playful turn for Jorja’s music, showcasing her experimentation with more dance-centric beats and flirty lyricism without sacrificing her velvety voice and tone. If “Be Honest” is the first taste of more music to come, we’ll be eagerly awaiting more. Check out the video below.
