*Spoilers for Stranger Things 4 below!*

Update: Joseph Quinn playing Metallica's "Master of Puppets" as Eddie Munson in Stranger Things season four is undoubtedly one of the biggest moments from the highly-anticipated sci-fi series. The heroic scene touched the hearts of viewers so much that the 1986 heavy metal track reentered the music charts. ST viewers were stunned to learn that Joseph actually shredded the initial guitar solo IRL. On Monday, July 11, the Stranger Things official writers' room Twitter account gave fans a glimpse into Joseph's prep for the big scene.

"Practice makes perfect," Stranger Things Writers' Room captioned the minute-long video of Joseph jamming out. If you were stunned watching Eddie distract demobats in the heartbreaking scene, you'll be just as impressed to see what it took for Joseph to perform it so effortlessly. Check it out below:

Previous: The latest season of Netflix's beloved 1980s-inspired sci-fi series, Stranger Things, is finally out in its entirety and fans have quickly fallen in love with newcomer Joseph Quinn, a.k.a metalhead Eddie Munson. As the leader of Hawkins High's very own Dungeons & Dragons group, The Hellfire Club, Eddie is the prime suspect in the murder of cheerleader Chrissy Cunningham after she fell victim to Vecna's curse. While in hiding, the rest of the Hawkins crew takes Eddie under their wing and he joins the war with the Upside Down, which has been wreaking havoc in Hawkins for the past couple of years.

While outrunning the law and Hawkins High's jocks looking for "justice," Eddie learns everything there is to know about the alternate universe that brought forth Demogorgons, the Mind Flayer, and now, Vecna/Henry/001 (like Robin, we still don't know what to call this season's terrifying villain). On their latest mission, Eddie uses his serious guitar skills to create a diversion for the demobats to leave the Creel House. The best part? Joseph Quinn actually played some guitar in the now-famous scene in which Eddie shreds to Metallica's 1986 single, "Master of Puppets" (which has spiked to No. 1 on the charts since Stranger Things Vol. 2 dropped, BTW).

In a July 4, 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Joseph revealed that he played the first notes that Eddie shreds. "I was very lucky in the fact that I've been playing [guitar] since I was young. I've had a huge amount of time off, but when I read the script, I went and bought the guitar and started practicing manically," he told the outlet before clarifying that he didn't play the actual solo. "I'm not a heavy metal guitarist, so we got this brilliant virtuoso to come in and do that bit. But the rest I was able to film," Joseph confirmed.

He also explained that Eddie's character arc is a "redemption tale" in the sense that he was able to pick himself back up after being blamed for Chrissy's murder. "I think he's completely haunted by his inability to do anything to save Chrissy and how powerless he was at that moment," Joseph told THR. "I think he gets a little bored with feeling pathetic and unable to do anything. And then at some point in episode 8, a switch flips, and he decides that he's going to prove himself. The opportunity then arises, but he has to pay the ultimate price [of dying]. But he proves to himself that he certainly isn't a coward."

Don't mind us, we're still mourning the loss of our brave king, Eddie Munson. For what it's worth, there's a slight chance we may be able to catch Joseph in a Stranger Things 5 flashback memory sequence as we did with Dacre Montgomery in season 4.
