Chicago White Sox utility player Josh Harrison, a former Princeton High School and University of Cincinnati Bearcats standout, collected the 999th and 1,000th hits of his Major League Baseball career on Tuesday night during an 8-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins in Chicago.

Harrison hit a ground rule double in the bottom of the 5th for hit No. 999, then reached on an infield single in the bottom of the 7th for his 1,000th career hit.

Harrison, who turns 35 later this week, agreed in March to a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the White Sox, which includes a $5.5 million team option for 2023. He is receiving $4 million in '22, with a $1.5 million buyout in ’23 if the option is not picked up.

Congratulations for Harrison via social media:

In 2021, Harrison hit .294 in 359 plate appearances for the Washington Nationals and .254 in 199 PAs for the Oakland Athletics. He was traded from the Nats to the A's in July with Yan Gomes and cash for Richard Guasch, Drew Millas and Seth Shuman. It was Harrison's 11th MLB season.

Harrison and teammate Adam Engel, a former Loveland High School standout, are among 13 players on MLB rosters from Greater Cincinnati high schools and/or colleges.

Harrison signed a one-year deal with the Nats in Oct. 2020 after MLB Network's Jon Heyman had reported that the Cincinnati Reds were among several MLB teams interested in him.

Harrison requested and was granted his release by the Philadelphia Phillies days before he signed with the Nats. He did not appear in a game for Philly. The Detroit Tigers released Harrison in Aug. 2019 after he hit .175 in 147 plate appearances.

Harrison was a two-time All-Star in eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 2014, Harrison hit .315 with 13 homers, 52 RBIs and 18 stolen bases and finished ninth in National League MVP voting.
