The Jaguars vs. Steelers golf teams during the week of the Constellation Energy Furyk and Friends PGA Tour Champions event at the Timuquana Country Club are set, the Times-Union has learned.

The Bus will be warmed up ... but it might not be enough to top a Jags twosome that will include the team's best-ever golfer.

Jags Hall of Fame offensive tackle Tony Boselli will pair with former kicker Josh Scobee against Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis on Oct. 7 in the nine-hole Celebrity Challenge for Charity, with each twosome playing for $100,000 that will go to two area charities.

More golf from Garry:

The competition will begin at Timuquana's 10th hole once the final Champions Tour group of the first round clears the 10th green.

The tournament announced last week that Boselli, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Aug. 6 in Canton, Ohio, would play against Roethlisberger. The addition of Scobee and Bettis will be formally announced next week.

The format will be a scramble, with additional side competition. Boselli and Scobee will be playing for Blessings in a Backpack and the Steeler team will be playing for Beaches Habitat for Humanity.

Scobee has played in numerous celebrity tournaments and once came within a shot of qualifying for a U.S. Open sectional during a local qualifier. He has regularly made Golf Digest's annual list of the top golfers from other sports and last year made a rare albatross at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course's par-5 ninth hole.

Scobee has a plus-2.5 handicap and has won seven club championships, five at Deerwood, one at San Jose and one at Squire Creek in his native state of Louisiana.

Tournament host and 17-time PGA Tour winner Jim Furyk is a native of Pennsylvania and grew up rooting for the Steelers. But he's also been a Jaguars fan since he moved to the First Coast in 1995 and gave the first "Duuuvalll!" before a home game at TIAA Bank Field.

Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis plays in the ACC Golf tournament last year at Lake Tahoe.

Boselli last played in the NFL in 2001 and Scobee's final season with the Jaguars was in 2014. Roethlisberger played for the Steelers from 2004-21 and Bettis from 1995-2005.

Bettis was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015. He had 13,662 career rushing yards and six 1,000-yard seasons in a row with the Steelers, after posting two with the St. Louis Rams.

Scobee had .801 of his field-goal attempts for the Jags and made .619 of his attempts beyond 50 yards. His career-long of 59 yards beat the Colts in 2010.

Last year's Celebrity Challenge matched Jacksonville native David Duval and former Steeler wide receiver Lynn Swann played against World Golf Hall of Fame member Annika Sorenstam and former St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Ozzie Smith.

Horschel ready to work

Billy Horschel gave himself a few minutes to let it sink in on Sunday.

He then got serious.

Horschel, a University of Florida graduate and a Ponte Vedra Beach resident is playing in his first international match-play event this week at the Presidents Cup, at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. Horschel was a captain's pick by Davis Love III.

Billy Horschel of Ponte Vedra Beach will play in his first Presidents Cup this week.

"I think it hit me when I walked into the [team] room Sunday when I got here," he said during a news conference on Tuesday. "And I had the five, 10 minutes of sort of enjoying it and thinking about everything. Since then it's been down to business and not taking it for granted, but at the same time being very happy and very pleased to be here and soaking all of the experience in because you just never know what happens in the game of golf."

Horschel has won seven times on the PGA Tour and was the 2014 FedEx Cup champion. But the U.S. Ryder Cup team had already been picked by then, leading to what has been called the "Billy Horschel Rule" — U.S. Ryder and Presidents Cup captains get one wild-card pick after the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Every U.S. captain since then has admitted they'd love to have Horschel's passion and enthusiasm radiating through the team room and on the golf course.

Horschel admitted he's not sure how much emotion will be flooding through his body when he tees off for his first match.

"It's going to be really cool," he said. "Everyone has been building me up because of how much energy I have and some of the celebrations I have on the course at times, but a lot of that is organic. I don't know what I'm going to feel, but ... everybody's pumping me up to be this energizer, like this cheerleader-type player. I can be like that. But I want you to understand it may not happen because we may not need it. I don't want to let everyone down because they're not going to see the energy, the celebration."

Searching for motivation

International Presidents Cup captain Trevor Immelman was asked on Tuesday how he will motivate his team, with eight of the 12 players in their first matches.

"I let them read all the stuff that you guys are writing. That's where I start," he said to the media. "Look, there's massive amounts of respect for the American team. All of these guys compete week in and week out, and all of us know exactly how good they are. So I don't really think you have to harp on it too much. We know where we're at. We know the adversity that our team has been through over the course of the last 12 months. So you really don't need to say too much."

Immelman said there's actually no need to fire up his rookies.

"Everything is new and fresh, and they're seeing everything for the first time," he said. "It's kind of like Christmas morning when you can't wait to open your presents up. That's what I'm seeing from these kids walking into the team room for the first time last night."

Hoop dreams

The question was a bit off the wall but Charlotte is basketball country.

Love and Immelman were asked to name a basketball team from their 12-man teams.

Immelman immediately went to his two tallest players, Taylor Pendrith and Cam Davis.

"I kind of like little Tom Kim as a point guard," he said. "He's got a fast mouth on him too, so he's perfect."

Love naturally picked Tony Finau (6 feet 4) and Scottie Scheffler (6-3), who played high school basketball, and Jordan Spieth and Kevin Kisner in the backcourt."

Thomas with some blessings

The Justin Thomas Foundation has donated enough money to provide weekend meals for 500 students at Camp Taylor Elementary in his hometown of Louisville, Ky., for the school year through the “Blessings in a Backpack” program that provides for needy children on the weekend.

Blessings in a Backpack is one of the primary charities assisted by the Furyk & Friends.
