Former Tennessee Vols star and Tennessee Titans quarterback Joshua Dobbs agreed to a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns, Dobbs' agent Mike McCartney tweeted Monday.

Dobbs, 28, started the Titans' final two games of the regular season last year and outplayed fellow backup QB Malik Willis in his limited time. But the Titans lost both games and missed out on the playoffs, with Dobbs' strip-sack returned for a go-ahead touchdown by Jaguars linebacker Josh Allen in the Week 18 loss that clinched the AFC South for Jacksonville.

Still, the veteran commanded the offense and played more competently than Willis, the team's 2022 third round pick who started three games in relief of injured Ryan Tannehill but did not exceed 100 passing yards in any game. Dobbs threw for 411 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in his two starts with the Titans.

Dobbs returns to Cleveland, where he spent the first 12 weeks of the season backing up Jacoby Brissett while the franchise awaited Deshaun Watson's return from suspension. Dobbs did not take a snap for the Browns, then spent a couple weeks on Detroit's practice squad before being signed by the Titans after Tannehill's season-ending ankle injury.

The former Vol will battle Kellen Mond, a former Vikings draft pick who has played in one career game in two seasons, to back up Watson in 2023.

The Titans have Tannehill and Willis as the only quarterbacks on the roster with five weeks to go before next month's NFL draft.
