This Morning presenter Josie Gibson has cleared the air, "squashing" rumours suggesting she is exiting the breakfast show.

Gibson, who has been hosting with Dermot O'Leary recently, shut down speculations she won't be returning to the sofa after her presenting stint.

"Alreeet lovers, Just to confirm, I have not left @thismorning I keep getting asked why I've left, so I thought it's easier to clear up the rumour mill on here," she wrote on Instagram.

"I am eternally grateful for all your love and support and I can not thank you enough," she continued, adding the hashtag "#squashingrumours".

It was previously announced that This Morning contributor and Capital Breakfast radio host Siân Welby has been promoted to a co-host position.

She'll be presenting alongside O'Leary this week, as ITV bosses are reported to be looking for a permanent replacement for former presenter Holly Willoughby following her exit last October.

Following the announcement, Gibson had posted on Instagram about her schedule, writing: "My last day with @dermotoleary tomorrow before @alisonhammond55 returns Friday.

"Then @sianwelby takes the @thismorning reins next week. What an amazing group of ladies to share the sofa with!!!!! @dermotoleary thank you for being my rock this week. You've been a complete star."

Together with Gibson and O'Leary and new addition Welby, Alison Hammond and Craig Doyle have also become part of This Morning's presenter lineup in recent years.

Meanwhile, Gibson is campaigning for fellow I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! star and this year's winner Sam Thompson to appear more regularly on This Morning after his recent Guinness World Record segment.

"I have seen the rumours that he might be doing something with This Morning and I was like, 'Can we please keep him?'" Gibson told Metro.

"I would love for him to come over to This Morning and be part of the family. He would make such a lovely addition.

"I'm hoping that the rumours are true, but I don't know anything."

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV and ITVX.
