Journalists denied access to part of southern regions, seaports

The new restrictions are set out in order from the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Commander-in-Chief dated March 20.

The order establishes three work zones for media – red, yellow, and green.

Red Zone – Media Prohibited

  • Odesa Oblast – Zmiinyi (Snake) Island, a border area island near Transnistria

  • Vinnytsia Oblast – border area and the liberated territories

  • Mykolaiv Oblast – Luparave, Lymany, Prybuzke, Liubomyrivka, Kyselivka, Novopetrivka, and Snihurivka

  • Kherson Oblast – The strip of coastal territorial communities and separate zones within the territorial communities of Posad-Pokrovske, Pravdyne, Davydiv Brid, Mala Oleksandrivka, Vysokopillia, as well as a strip of settlements on both sides along the Inhulets River

  • Dnipropetrovsk Oblast – territorial communities along the shore of the Kakhovka water reservoir to the oblast border

  • The red zone also includes all critical and military infrastructure facilities, and sea and river ports, regardless of their geographic location

Yellow Zone – Media Permitted only with public relations officer or another official designated by commander

  • Kherson (except for southern Kherson Oblast)

  • Mykolayiv Oblast – Mykolayiv, Balovne, Nova Odesa, Yelanets, Novovasylivka, Olhopil, Bereznehuvatske, Rozanivka, Novooleksandrivka, Dmytrivka, Novoskeliuvatka, Mykhailivka, Novolazarivka, Troyitsko-Safonove, Zoria, Lepetykha, Bila Krynytsia, Chervona Dolyna, Pervomaiske, and Voskresenske, as well as the territories of Ochakiv and Kutsurub

  • Dnipropetrovsk Oblast – Zelenodolsk, Apostolove and Mykhailo-Zavodske

  • Odesa Oblast – communities along the Danube River from the mouth of Bystre to Reni, and the coast of the Black Sea and estuaries

Green zone – Media permitted without a public relations officer or other designated official

  • Kirovohrad Oblast – Bobrynets, Kropyvnytskyi, Kamianka, Svitlovodsk, downstream along the right bank of the Dnipro River

  • Odesa, Mykolayiv and Kherson oblasts (excluding localities and red and yellow zone facilities)

  • Vinnytsia Oblast (excluding the red border zone)

  • All other areas of Ukraine
