JSU, Family Savings Credit Union combine on financial wellness initiative for students

Ideally, a college diploma indicates that a graduating student has acquired academic knowledge, but functioning in a post-campus environment takes some other skills — such as financial literacy and wellness.

Jacksonville State University and Gadsden’s Family Savings Credit Union have announced an initiative to ensure that students gain that knowledge.

A kickoff reception is set from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Family Savings Administration Office board room, at 205 Rescia Ave. in Rainbow City. The credit union will make a financial commitment to JSU at the meeting.

The initiative’s goal, according to a news release from the credit union, “is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make informed financial decisions, enabling them to achieve their financial goals and secure a prosperous future beyond their university years.”

It will include workshops and presentations on living on a budget; understanding financial wellness; managing tax and financial aid refunds; planning for post-graduation life; filing taxes as a student; debt management; student loan repayment; identity protection; credit awareness; and financial awareness basics.
