Juan Centeno's big night gives Soddies series-opening win over Midland

What this game means: The Sod Poodles began this week's series against Midland with an impressive victory. The Soddies went up big early before the RockHounds cut it close late. Amarillo put up an insurance run in the ninth inning and held on for the victory. Amarillo is 52-57 on the year.
Tuesday's highlights: It was all Amarillo early on as Juan Centeno sent drove in three runs in the first inning on a double before Midland put up two in the bottom half. Eduardo Diaz homered in the second to score himself and Jorge Barrosa to make it 5-2 Amarillo. In the fourth, doubles by Centeno and Tristin English each scored a runner while Robby Enriquez added a RBI single to up the lead to 8-2. Midland began to fight their way back, but Centeno's RBI single to score Cedeno in the sixth and Ti'Quan Forbes' solo home run in the ninth were enough to hold off the effort.
Tuesday's stars: There were a lot of good efforts, but Centeno deserves the game ball in this one. The oldest player on the Amarillo roster went 3-for-4 including two doubles and had a whopping five RBI to lead the effort. Make no mistake, though, it was a true team effort as all nine members of the starting lineup secured a hit, five of whom picked up two. Cedeno scored three runs while Diaz had two RBI and Slade Cecconi (six hits, four earned runs, two walks and six strikeouts in five innings) picked up the win on the mound.
Up next: Amarillo and Midland will continue their series all week through Sunday in Midland.
