Judge denies bond to Greenville man facing Prattville kidnapping, rape charges

Autauga District Judge Joy Pace Booth ruled Monday that a man charged with the kidnap and rape of two 17-year-old girls will receive no bond and will remain in jail.

Michael Jerome Butler, 35, of Greenville, faces eight charges in connection with the incident. According to court records, the teenagers were abducted at the Prattville Walgreens on Thursday night. District Attorney C.J. Robinson said the event was a random act. The girls were at the "wrong place at the wrong time."

"That could be my daughter," Robinson said, adding that Butler targeted the girls.

Butler's charges include two counts of kidnapping in the first degree, two counts of sodomy in the first degree, two counts of rape in the first degree, one count of sexual torture and another count of robbery in the first degree.

Robinson said his office will seek to have Butler convicted and sentenced to life without parole. Butler has been convicted of five previous felonies, including a home invasion and shooting. All of his previous crimes took place in Butler County.

Robinson said that the two teenagers are ready to take the stand and put Butler in prison.

"They are heroes," Robinson said. "They are devoted to the case." He later added, "The fact that we're not zipping them up in a body bag shows their character."
