Judge sides with Pittsburgh International Airport’s decision to evict airmall operator amid ongoing
A Court of Common Pleas judge in Allegheny County has issued an order siding with the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) — the managing organization for Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) — amid an ongoing lawsuit between it and its airmall operator, Fraport Pittsburgh Inc.
In her five-page memorandum issued on Aug. 17, Judge Christine Ward denied a preliminary injunction motion requested by Fraport that sought to permit Fraport the ability to remain on PIT’s premises amid an ongoing lawsuit between it and ACAA that centers on a dispute over a lease agreement between the two entities.
In June, ACAA prematurely terminated its multi-year contract with Fraport and evicted it from operating out of the region’s largest airport — a job Fraport has had as the exclusive lessee of commercial concession spaces at PIT since the 1990s and was set to hold until 2029 — amid alleged security concerns and a reported default on its lease, ACAA argued. Fraport has denied these allegations in court.
