Julie’s Supper Club ready to open for business in Oconto

OCONTO - Wisconsin has long had a love affair with supper clubs, and now a new one is looking to win hearts in Oconto.

Julie’s Supper Club will open Monday, March 20 at the site of the former Oconto Legion Golf Club, 532 Jefferson St. Its formal grand opening will run Friday, March 24 through Sunday, March 26.

Owner Luis Morales said he shares the love of supper clubs, where the food, drinks and camaraderie make them beloved gathering places.

"I wanted to bring back a traditional-style restaurant hoping that it makes its resurgence," Morales said.

The restaurant's menu will include a wide variety of freshly cooked meals, including steaks, burgers, seafood, pasta, sandwiches and salads.

"Being able to make good food and see how it brings people together is a passion of mine," Morales said. "I want to bring good quality food with a good dining experience and a welcoming environment to the people of Oconto."

Morales said he comes from a long line of family members who are successful restaurant owners and great chefs, prompting him to dream of the day he could own his own restaurant.

Morales said the former golf club is a prime spot to open his restaurant because he loves the rustic look it has, along with the "gorgeous open view" that it has from the back.

Morales and others have spent "countless months" making upgrades to the inside of the restaurant to prepare for opening day.

The nine-hole course was previously owned by Mitch and Sharon Lambert, beginning in May 2019. The Lamberts changed the name of the business to Shorebreeze Golf Course but were not able to open it for golfing because of flooding, though the restaurant operated for a time into 2020.

Julie’s Supper Club will be open Sunday through Thursdays from 3 to 9 p.m., and Fridays through Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m.

"My goal is to give the city of Oconto the best dining experience that I possibly can," Morales said.
