June is Pride Month. There are tons of events throughout New Jersey. Here's a list

Time to dig out your rainbow flags and boldest outfits — June is Pride Month, and there's no shortage of opportunities to celebrate around New Jersey.

Since 1970, June calendars have filled up with marches, festivals and artwork honoring LGBTQ+ identities. Pride's changed since it's first iteration, a protest in which LGBTQ+ people demanded equal rights, a fight that continues today.

Activism is still the priority for many in June, but it's also a time to recognize LGBTQ+ communities' resilience and triumphs. Parties, parades, flag raising ceremonies and more are planned in many Garden State communities, some even beyond June, so many that the list below only mentions a handful that locals can enjoy.

Saturday, June 3

  • Rutherford PrideFestNoon to 6 p.m. (Rain date is June 4), Lincoln Park (6 Highland Cross)

    • Both kids and adults can enjoy another year of Rutherford’s PrideFest with activities for youngsters and a beer garden for their caretakers. Longtime local drag queen Harmonica Sunbeam will host a series of live performances and remarks. An hour before festivities begin, watch as local leaders raise the rainbow Pride flag in a ceremony at Rutherford Borough Hall. Learn more about both events at rutherfordpridealliance.org.

  • Merchantville Pride11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Peak Secondhand at 105 Centre St.

    • Features a Drag Queen Story Hour at the public library, followed by drag performances from Dominique Lee and Miss Redd outside of Peak Secondhand. The grand finale is a fashion show using the street as its catwalk that includes local fashionistas of all ages. Find more details on Peak Secondhand’s Facebook page.

  • Atlantic County Pride in the Park 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Memorial Park, Main Street in Mays Landing

    • For the second year, Atlantic County will celebrate LGBTQ+ identities with balloon art, face painting and food all while learning about community resources. Visit PRIDE in Mays Landing on Facebook to learn more.

  • Glen Rock Pride in the Park Noon to 4 p.m., Glen Rock Borough Hall (1 Harding Plaza)

    • The day includes a rainbow flag raising ceremony, live music, arts and crafts, vendors, inspirational speakers and more. Check out Glen Rock Pride’s Facebook page for more information.

Sunday, June 4

  • Statewide LGBTQ+ Pride CelebrationNoon to 7 p.m., Atlantic Square Park and Bradley Park, intersection of Sunset & Ocean Avenues in Asbury Park

    • A parade steps off at noon at Asbury Park City Hall and eventually ends at the festival ground. There, for the entire afternoon local businesses and community groups will set up booths while a series of musical artists will take the stage near the boardwalk.   • Teaneck Pride Parade & Celebration Noon to 7 p.m., Votee Park, Palisade Avenue

    • Start the day in Teaneck with a Pride Parade stepping off at the intersection of Cedar Lane and Queen Anne Road. The crowd will march to Votee Park, just in time for a rainbow flag raising ceremony at 2:30 p.m. at the park’s stadium. Stick around from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. for a Family Fun Day including Drag Queen Story Time, inflatable roads and food and vendor booths. Check out teaneckpride.com for more information.

Saturday, June 10

  • Montclair PrideNoon to 8 p.m., downtown Montclair

    • Ten days of local Pride events — including performances, a bike ride at Canterbury Park and a free kick-off party on June 1 at the Montclair Art Museum — culminates in the main Montclair Pride celebration on June 10. Attendees will find musicians and speakers at the main stage, located at Bloomfield and Fullerton Avenues, throughout the afternoon.   • Toms River Pride11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Washington Street

    • The family-friendly event will feature food, performances, shopping opportunities and a chance to explore Toms River’s downtown district. You can also nominate someone you believe is New Jersey’s most impactful LGBTQ+ advocate or ally to receive the Pride Advocate Award. To nominate someone or learn more, visit exit82theatre.com.

  • Ocean City Pride Fest 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Ocean City High School practice field on East 6th Street

    • The city’s first-ever Pride festival kicks off with a Pride-themed boardwalk stroll followed by a day of family-friendly activities, live music and yoga. The party moves to Oar House Pub at 3 p.m. where people can get a free drink and snacks by showing their Pride Fest bracelet. Sunday, June 11

  • North Jersey Pride Festival Noon to 6 p.m., Memorial Park, 580 Valley St. in Maplewood

    • Find treasures at over 100 merchant booths, who can also provide last-minute rainbow garb. The event will include a food court, inflatables and obstacle courses for kids and a stage featuring local and national headliners. More details at northjerseypride.org.

  • 973 Pride5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Third Ward Park, Passaic and Van Houten Avenues, Passaic

    • Passaic’s Pride event celebrates the intersectionality of Latinx and LGBTQ+ communities with performances from six drag queens. The show kicks off at 7 p.m. Read more in logropassaic.org.

Friday, June 16

  • Hudson Pride Center's LGBTQ+ Prom Gala 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., White Eagle Hall, 337 Newark Ave. in Jersey City

    • High school prom wasn't ideal for many LGBTQ+ people, so Hudson Pride Center is giving people a chance for a re-do. This 21-plus event features dancing to tunes from a live DJ, open bar, buffet and entertainment. Drag superstar Harmonica Sunbeam will host the fundraiser, which benefits Hudson Pride Center's programming. Buy tickets at hudsonpride.networkforgood.com.

Saturday, June 17

  • Boonton Rainbow Pride — 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Grace Lord Park, Plane Street (Rain location is Boonton Elks Lodge at 125 Cornelia St.)

    • Start the day watching a rainbow flag fly high as the local Elks Lodge hosts a flag raising ceremony. Then mosey over to picnic festivities taking place all afternoon at Grace Lord Park, including an interactive art exhibit, live music, dancing and lawn games. Saturday, June 24

  • Morris County Pride Festival 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., County College of Morris, 214 Center Grove Rd. in Randolph

    • Enjoy the festival’s first-ever beer garden (if you’re old enough) and explore food trucks and vendors, stop to take some snaps in photo booths and enjoy a stacked up lineup of performers at Morris County Pride. Read more about it on gaamc.org.

Saturday, August 26

  • Jersey City LGBTQ+ Pride Festival 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Grove Street PATH Plaza and Newark Ave.

    • Jersey City Pride says this year’s festival will be among the largest in the city’s history. The afternoon begins with an Equality March starting at City Hall and ending at the festival’s main stage at Erie and Jersey.

    • Jersey City Pride also planned several events for June, including a Pride Month kick-off celebration on June 1 at The Atelier Ballroom and a rooftop vow renewals ceremony on June 26, the anniversary of marriage equality passing in the U.S. The latter takes place at Six26. Sunday, September 10

  • Out in the Park Pride Festival Noon to 6 p.m., Cooper River Park, 7001 North Park Dr. in Cherry Hill

    • Southern New Jersey LGBTQ+ Pride invites community members to grab blankets, chairs and tables for a picnic in the park. Guests can buy food and other goods from vendors under the sun. Find out more on jerseygaypride.com.
