Junior hockey: Second-period scoring splurge lifts WarHawks, 4-3
Nov. 12—WILLMAR — Three goals in the second period helped lift the Willmar WarHawks to a 4-3 NA3HL victory over the Minnesota Loons before 450 fans Friday night at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.
Minnesota grabbed a 2-1 lead when Sebastian Schuehle scored 39 seconds into the second period. Willmar then got goals from Luke McCarthy, Spencer Bergman and Kevin Odlaug to earn a 4-2 lead.
McCarthy, a forward from Cottage Grove, scored his second goal of the season at 4:22. Bergman, a forward from Detroit Lakes, scored his first goal of the season at 13:21. Then, Odlaug, a forward from St. Paul, scored his first goal at 18:41.
Payton Mancuso made 32 saves to earn the victory in goal.Mancuso, from Winona, now has a 2-4 record and 3.68 goals-against average with a 90% save percentage this season.
Willmar hits the road for a 7:10 p.m. game Saturday against the New Ulm Steel at the New Ulm Civic Center.
