  • On September 21, 2019, Jupiter and Neptune are squaring off, which basically means an astrological standoff.

  • This will encourage your zodiac sign to take more risks and feel extra confident.

  • Just make sure to use common sense before making any drastic life changes.

If you're casually obsessed with astrology (a.k.a. you know your whole birth chart by heart, check Co-Star every day, have every zodiac season marked on your cal), then you're no stranger to certain astrological events, like what it means when a planet goes retrograde. (Heads up: That's where Mercury's going on October 31—spooky, I know.)

But there are plenty of other astrological happenings that get less air play, even though they can have a huge impact on your life. Planets going square just so happens to be one of those things.

Well, Jupiter and Neptune are squaring off on September 21, and it’s going to transform you into a total risk-taker. But there's more to this astrological duel than just that. Donna Page, a certified astrologer in Atlanta, is here to break down exactly what Jupiter and Neptune going square means for your zodiac sign.

Hold up: What does it mean when planets go square?

It has nothing to do with planets tracing cubes in the sky (although that would be cool). Instead, when planets go square, they’re essentially facing off. "It’s a little bit of a standoff between two energies," Page explains.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing when planets go square, but it is kind of an astrological rumble. "It’s an intense emotion that both of these qualities want expression," Page says, meaning you feel like you're getting pulled in two different directions. Luckily, Jupiter and Neptune aren’t that far apart in terms of the vibes they give off, so you shouldn’t be facing a massive internal struggle or anything scary like that (phew!).

What will happen when Jupiter and Neptune go square?

So…Jupiter is all about feeling confident in yourself. Want to become an Instagram influencer? Why can’t you? Dying to be the next Bachelorette? Clearly, producers would be lucky to have you."It’s about going beyond what everybody else says is possible to be able to expand and explore," says Page.

Plus, Jupiter is in Sagittarius right now, meaning it'll give off a bit of a fake-it-til-you-make-it vibe. "Sometimes, you just have to pretend, and then you catch up with what you say you can do," Page explains.

At the same time, Neptune is in Pisces, which is all about dreaming big. That's a dynamite combo, since "you have to dream something before it comes into reality," Page says.

Once you put these two things together, the sky's the friggin' limit. You’ll have mega confidence in yourself and your abilities, which will translate into next-level accomplishments, natch.

Let anyone tell you you can’t do what you want? You'd never. Because you know you can. "It’s about being able to break the boundaries and to dream of what’s possible," Page says.

What does Jupiter and Neptune going square mean for your future?

If you can dream it, you can do it—or, at least, you’ll believe that. Jupiter and Neptune going square can give you the moxie you need to look for a new job (finally!). Or maybe you’ll make that much-needed move across the country you’ve been thinking of doing for ages. Heck, you might even run a marathon while you’re at it, because why not? You can do it!

Btw, if you are rethinking your career right now, here's the best job for your zodiac sign:

Just keep in mind, per Page, that there’s a flip side to all of this ballsiness. You may get a little, um, deluded into thinking that everything will be cool when conventional wisdom says it, uh, won’t. Like, charging a ton of stuff to your credit card and just assuming you’ll find a way to pay it off, or quitting your job and moving to Hollywood on a whim to pursue your dream of being an actress because you totally crushed it in your community play. It’s not that you shouldn’t do these things, but you just might want to have a little more planning in place, ya know, JIC things don’t turn out the way you hope.

Ultimately, Jupiter going square with Neptune can be a time to seize great, big opportunities for yourself—just as long as you use common sense. "It's about having the confidence and tenacity to be more than you think you can be," Page says. And that’s pretty d*mn awesome.
