Jupiter woman struck and killed while crossing road in Martin County

MARTIN COUNTY — A 51-year-old Jupiter woman was killed Friday night after she was struck by a vehicle crossing a highway just north of the Palm Beach County line, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The woman, whose name was not disclosed, was walking eastbound just after 7 p.m. when she attempted to cross the northbound travel lanes on U.S. 1 just north of County Line Road and was hit by a van driven by a 41-year-old Port St. Lucie woman.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, whose identity also was not disclosed, stopped and stayed on the scene. The driver, who had two teenage passengers from Port St. Lucie in the van, was not injured, nor were her passengers.

Next of kin has been notified, FHP said. The case remains under investigation.
