Jurors hear opening statements in Kristin Smart murder trial

Opening statements kicked off Monday in the trial of a man and his father charged in connection with the disappearance of Kristin Smart, a former Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student, more than 25 years ago. Paul Flores, a former student last seen with Smart in 1996, is accused of killing Smart and getting help from his father, Ruben Flores, to hide her body. Both men have pleaded not guilty. The men are being tried separately with two different juries but at the same time. First, the jury for Paul Flores listened to opening statements, and then they swapped out with a second jury that started to hear Ruben Flores' case.
