Just Because You Can Buy This Hellcat for the Price of a Camry Doesn't Mean You Should

If you're anything like me, you probably love wasting time at work looking at cool cars for sale. Usually, when I'm looking at a specific car, I like to sort by lowest price first, just to see how cheaply I can get into a car if I really wanted to. While looking at used Hellcats, I stumbled upon this, um, lightly-wrecked salvage-title Charger that the seller says runs and drives. It's currently the cheapest Charger Hellcat on eBay right now. Pretty tempting, right?

Honestly, from the outside, this Charger doesn't look very damaged at all. The bumper has definitely been fixed or replaced, and the hood is bent in a bit. Otherwise, the wheels look straight, and the front fenders seem okay. According to the ad, the car was totaled out due to "minor" front frame damage caused by an impact strong enough to set off the driver's side front airbag. It's said to run and drive just fine. Listed for just $36,300 on eBay right now, it's a hell of a deal for anyone wanting to get into a Hellcat for cheap... on the surface at least.

Since the car has a salvage title, it could end up being difficult (or straight-up impossible) to register and insure in your state, depending on where you live. Usually you have to prove to the state the car has been repaired in such a way that satisfies an inspector. Plus, because the car has frame damage, safety structures can be permanently compromised, meaning if you get into another crash, the car might not protect you as well as it would have from the factory.

So while this car may seem like the deal of the century, we'd think twice about picking it up. If you're in the market for a full, working Hellcat drivetrain for your next project, however, it might be the perfect buy.
