Just a handful of 2020 concerts delayed by COVID remain to be played in Jacksonville

The Doobie Brothers are playing a concert Monday night at Daily's Place. It's about time.

The show, previously scheduled for June 12, 2020; July 21, 2021; and June 5, 2022, is one of a handful of concerts postponed by the pandemic that still haven't been played.

Of 130 shows that were listed in the Times-Union's Ticket Tracker feature on March 13, 2020 — the day COVID-19 started shutting down everything — about half were canceled and half postponed. We're down to five of the 130 that are still on the books but haven't actually happened yet (and at least one of those is going to take awhile).

In the case of the Doobie Brothers, who reunited with keyboardist Michael McDonald for a 50th anniversary tour, the show was originally supposed to happen June 12, 2020. They bumped it to July 21, 2021, but the band was only able to play about half of its scheduled dates that year and the Jacksonville show was moved to June 5 of this year. COVID struck again a few days before they were supposed to play Daily's Place, postponing the show to Monday.

The Goo Goo Dolls have also postponed twice. They're now scheduled to play at Daily's Place on Aug. 24. Same with Rod Stewart, who postponed from 2020 to '21 to a new date this year, Sept. 2, at Daily's Place.

Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band are scheduled to play at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sept. 15. Due to repeated postponements, fans might hold tickets for that show that say June 26, 2020; June 25, 2021; or June 24, 2022.

The current champ for postponements is Matchbox Twenty. The band was originally booked to play Daily's Place on Aug. 9, 2020. That was moved to Aug. 8, 2021, then again to July 6, 2022. The group is now scheduled to play on July 5, 2023. That's roughly 3½ years after tickets for the show first went on sale.

Matchbox Twenty moved its Daily's Place show from 2020 to 2021, then to 2022. They're now scheduled to play in 2023.

Those 2020 shows weren't the only ones to be postponed. Plenty of shows intended for 2021 and even from earlier this year were put on hold and still haven't been played. Steely Dan, Trace Adkins, Randy Rainbow and the Steep Canyon Rangers are all scheduled to play shows in Jacksonville this year that were supposed to be last year, and Judy Collins, Steve Vai and Bob Mould are doing shows rescheduled from earlier in 2022.
