And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King has delved into Aidan Shaw's "makeover" in the Sex and the City spin-off.

Reuniting with Carrie Bradshaw in the latest episode, the furniture craftsman looked like a wholly different person on screen.

Discussing this transformation on the Writers Room podcast, King said: "We cut his hair, we took the turquoise jewellery away.

"We told [actor John Corbett] he had to be rock hard when he came back."

King went on to recall: "I said it to John. John knows. He was eating fried chicken when I told him and he dropped the fried chicken on the plate and fell down in the booth that we were sitting in and said, 'I knew I was a fatty.'

"Then he came back rock hard with short hair."

Apparently, this impressive transformation was an editorial choice as opposed to "aesthetic", with the And Just Like That boss describing Corbett's original Aidan as "perfect".

"It was a story choice. If we're bringing somebody back, we have to find some way to bring them back in a new way," he explained.

Sat alongside King for the podcast was screenwriter Elisa Zuritsky, who hailed King for flipping the gender expectation script.

"You might be among the few showrunners who actually clamp down on men to hit the gym and actually like, put a little pressure on their appearance, which most women would say tends to fall into female laps," she commented.

And Just Like That, the sequel to Sex and the City, airs on Max in the US and Sky Comedy and NOW in the UK.
