Juvenile admits to making threat against Clinton County high school, sheriff says

A Clinton County juvenile has confessed to making a threat of violence that forced Wesclin High School to cancel classes Wednesday, the Clinton County sheriff said.

Investigators determined the juvenile “did not have the means to follow through with the threat” and the suspect was released to the custody of a parent, Sheriff Dan Travous said in a news release.

The high school was allowed to reopen Thursday.

Travous said investigators obtained emergency search warrants that led them to a “suspect residence” Wednesday afternoon.

“Contact was made with multiple subjects at the residence, all of whom agreed to come to the sheriff’s office to be interviewed,” Travous stated. “Through these interviews, one of the subjects, who was accompanied by a parent, confessed to making threats toward Wesclin High School.”

The sheriff’s office received a call at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday about the threat of violence at Wesclin High School and the school district administrators decided to cancel classes for the day.

Meanwhile, additional security was provided at Wesclin Middle School on Wednesday.

Wesclin School District 3 Superintendent Jennifer Filyaw could not be reached for comment.

The name and age of the suspect cannot be released because this is a juvenile case, Travous said.

Also, Travous said a report will be forwarded to Clinton County State’s Attorney J.D. Brandmeyer.
