Update: 3 arrested for Gulfport shooting that left juvenile in critical condition, police say

A juvenile is in critical but stable condition at a Coast hospital after a shooting in Gulfport Saturday afternoon.

At 3:38 p.m., Gulfport police officers were patrolling near Ohio and Indiana avenues when they heard multiple gunshots.

Officers went to investigate and found a juvenile suffering from gunshot wounds, a press release said.

A vehicle with three people inside was seen fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. One officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle crashed into a ditch and the three people fled from the vehicle.

The officer engaged one armed suspect, who then dropped his rifle and fled on foot with a second suspect. One of the suspects was taken into custody on scene. The two suspects that fled were later found and arrested without incident.

The victim had a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Gulfport Police Department arrested two adults and one juvenile that day and charged them with the following:

Jakwon Laquincy Wilborn, 19, shooting into a dwelling times two, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer

Kyell Rayale Maurice, 16, shooting into a dwelling times two

The press release didn’t specify where the suspects live.

Police said Wilborn left the vehicle and pointed a fully automatic rifle in the officer’s direction. The officer engaged Wilborn, who then dropped his weapon and fled on foot with Maurice.

Thomas threw a fully automatic firearm as he got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Wilborn and Maurice were later located and arrested without incident.

The home was shot into multiple times, police said.

The suspects were taken to the Harrison County jail. Thomas’ bond was set at $600,000, Wilborn’s bond was set at $750,000, and Maurice’s bond was set at $500,000.
