Student in custody, another seriously injured in stabbing at Lansdowne High School, Baltimore County Police say

Baltimore County Police took a girl into custody Tuesday after another student was seriously injured at Lansdowne High School.

Police said a 15-year-old student is at the hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing occurred at the school.

Both the victim and suspect are female students, police said. A student resource officer and his supervisor were alerted to the first-degree assault at 12:45 p.m. The officers quickly took the student into custody and helped the victim.

Joy Stewart, the director of communications for the Baltimore County Police Department, said she didn’t know if the student who is a suspect will be charged with assault because her age is currently unknown. Officers are investigating the incident, Stewart said.

Lansdowne High School Principal Allison Seymour wrote to parents and guardians concerning the student-on-student assault and said the school went into lockdown from 12:40 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

“All students and staff are safe,” Seymour wrote. “This is an active investigation and there will be an increased police presence on campus throughout the afternoon.”

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski called the attack heartbreaking and said he expects the student suspect to be “held fully accountable for this outrageous and unacceptable behavior.”

“We are praying for a full and speedy recovery to the injured student and we applaud the school resource officer onsite for their efforts to quickly apprehend the suspect,” Olszewski wrote in a tweet.

Three Baltimore County Police vehicles were stationed outside the high school at dismissal. Students poured out of the building at the regularly scheduled time. All afterschool activities have been canceled.
