Coroner IDs 12-year-old boy fatally shot in Red Lion

Update on Monday: The York County Coroner has identified the juvenile as 12-year-old Kain Heiland of the first block of East Prospect Street in Red Lion.

The child died of a gunshot wound to the chest through the back, the coroner's office said.

The manner is homicide, which under the coroner's definition means "death at the hands of another," the release states.

An autopsy was completed Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, the release states.

Pennsylvania State Police did not provide an update Monday on the investigation.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the death of a juvenile who was found after troopers responded to a reported shooting in Red Lion on Saturday night, according to a news release.

The name and age of the boy have not been released.

State police were dispatched just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday to a reported shooting along First Avenue in Red Lion. When troopers arrived, they found the juvenile deceased from an apparent gunshot wound, the release states.

The state police criminal investigation unit is investigating the death.

"There is no danger to the public," the release states.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:48 p.m., according to the York County Coroner's Office.

An autopsy will be scheduled sometime this week at Lehigh Valley Hospital, the coroner said.

First Avenue reopened early Sunday morning, state police said.

This is the second fatal shooting in York County in two days. Quintir Simmons, 24, of York died from multiple gunshot wounds after a shooting in the city on Thursday. His death was ruled a homicide, and police are investigating.
