Juveniles charged with crimes at Dover school, field and neighborhood

DOVER — Two juveniles have been charged with stealing and causing residential and school property damage in the area of Garrison Road and the Shaws Lane athletic fields.

Police announced Thursday the juveniles were seen on surveillance video in multiple incidents during the early morning hours of Aug. 28. Dover police Capt. David Terlemezian said the two juveniles are both boys and do not reside in Dover.

Police said multiple residents in the area of Garrison Road reported theft and criminal mischief had occurred on their properties, and staff from Garrison Elementary School reported property damage. The city’s Recreation Department eported to police that the Shaws Lane athletic fields concession stand had been burglarized.

Five residences on Garrison Road and surrounding streets were affected by the criminal mischief and thefts, according to Terlemezian. At least one of the items that was stolen but has since been recovered was a bicycle.

Terlemezian said “substantial damage” was caused to the residences, school and the concession stand.

“It’s still under investigation to the extent that we’re still waiting for damage assessments from the crime victims,” Terlemezian said Thursday.

One of the juveniles has been charged with burglary, criminal mischief and three counts of theft by unauthorized taking, according to city police. The second has been charged with one count of burglary and two counts of criminal mischief.

Through the juvenile justice system, the suspects will face an additional charge of falsifying physical evidence, police said.
