Juveniles held after break-in at Winchester gun store, police chase

WINCHESTER, Ind. — Four juveniles were taken into custody on Saturday after a break-in at a Winchester gun store and a police chase that concluded in Ohio.

According to Winchester police, officers responded to a burglary alarm at Apex Shooters Supply, 910 E. Washington St., about 3:45 a.m. Saturday.

Officers determined a vehicle had been used to crash into the front doors of the business, and "several firearms had been stolen," according to a release.

Police then located "suspect vehicles," and a chase lasting an estimated 40 minutes ensued. The pursuit eventually reached Greenville, Ohio, about 20 miles southeast of Winchester, and ended in Pittsburg, a village in Darke County about 12 miles southeast of Greenville.

Four juvenile suspects were taken into custody, Winchester police said.

WHIO-TV in Dayton reported at least two suspects apprehended were from the Dayton area, and were being held in a juvenile detention facility in Miami County, Ohio.

In their release, Winchester Police Chief Michael Burk and Deputy Chief Brandon Barndollar expressed thanks to Randolph County and Darke County sheriff's deputies, Union City and Greenville police, Indiana State Police, Ohio State Patrol, ATF agents and emergency dispatchers from Randolph and Darke counties for "all their assistance and efforts in this incident to get it to a safe and effective resolve."
