Officials say K-9 Reis is a high-drive, strong-willed dog who exhibits a uniquely high level of courage -- just like the fallen officers he helped to honor.
- A sheriff's office K-9 was the focus today of a tribute to three fallen law enforcement officers. A naming ceremony was held for two-year-old Dutch shepherd Reis. His handler named him in honor of Sheriff's Correction Officer Andrew Reister, who was killed while working an off-duty job in 2008. His family taking part in the ceremony.
Reis then received a ballistic vest that was donated in the memory of another fallen officer, NYPD Transit Detective George Caccavale, who was shot on the job back in 1976. His daughter and children also at the ceremony. The vest was donated in part by a foundation established in the honor of late NYPD Detective Brian Simonsen, who was shot and killed in 2019.
