K-9, SWAT team peacefully end standoff in Worcester

A standoff with a potentially armed suspect in Worcester came to a peaceful end Wednesday morning.

Police say they tried to arrest 50-year-old Edward Kloucek, a resident of East Kendall Street, on a warrant around 9:30 a.m.

Kloucek refused to open his door, and officers learned he had a rifle inside his home, according to police.

After several unsuccessful attempts to get Kloucek to open the door, crisis negotiators and the SWAT team were called to the scene.

Police say negotiators briefly made contact with Kloucek, who hung up the phone. SWAT and the K-9 unit went into the home after about two hours of trying to contact Kloucek and found him hiding in a closet.

Officers seized a rifle and charged Kloucek with four counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, intimidation of a witness and armed career criminal Level 3. He will also face charges related to the warrant.
