K-Beauty Brand Peripera's Mascara Doubled the Length of My Lashes

When picking the Best of Beauty Award-winning mascaras, Allure editors get extremely specific. Among the dozens of tubes we tried out this year, we categorized the best ones under volumizing, lengthening, waterproof, color, luxury, and drugstore, adding up to six different Best of Beauty winners in the mascara category.

For Allure Korea, the team in Seoul only picked two winning mascaras under one general "mascara" category. About 500 judges tried out curling, lengthening, and volumizing formulas in a blind test and picked the Peripera Long Lash Curling Ink Black Cara as the grand Best of Beauty Award winner. Allure Korea's editors, on the other hand, have their own award aptly called the Editor's Pick, which is announced alongside the Best of Beauty Award winner. They looked stateside for their selection: the Maybelline New York Falsies Push Up Angel Waterproof Mascara. The drugstore favorite is well-loved by our editors, too, for its incredible lash-enhancing formula. However, none of us have tried out the Peripera pick. I've heard amazing things about the beloved K-beauty brand's Ink Airy Velvet Lip Tints, though.

Allure Korea's Review of the Peripera Long Lash Curling Ink Black Cara

According to Allure Korea, the Peripera Long Lash Curling Ink Black Cara was chosen for its fine-bristled brush that catches onto even the shortest, hard-to-reach lashes, and thin formula that evenly coats fringe and keeps it voluminous and flake-free all day long.

If the various Best of Beauty Award-winning mascaras in America are any indication, I'm *extremely* particular about mascara. No matter how I do my makeup, I always have to have lush, curled lashes. So I decided to put the Allure Korea Best of Beauty Award-winning mascara to the test. Luckily, you can easily shop it in the U.S. Many CVS stores around the country stock it.

The Peripera Long Lash Curling Ink Black Cara's Brush

Just as Allure Korea noted, the bristles of the Peripera Long Lash Curling Ink Black Cara are short and stubby. They line a slightly half-moon-shaped brush with a wand that is about an inch and a half shorter than your typical one. At first, I had to get used to it, but after a couple swipes, I realized the reduced length makes the brush easier to maneuver. I like to wiggle the bristles close to the root of my lashes for extra volume, and the smaller wand helps to really get in there.

For the first couple coats of the mascara, I like to hold the brush with the flatter side toward my lashes. This helps evenly coat them with pigment and extend them to nearly two times their usual length, according to in my non-scientific calculations.

Then, I flip to the outwardly curved side to help curl my lashes and add definition. If you solely used the other side, you'll notice that it gives lashes more of a straighter effect.

The Peripera Long Lash Curling Ink Black Cara's Formula

Again, the Allure Korea team was right when they said the formula is thin and lightweight. The American equivalent would closely resemble Glossier Lash Slick's formula. They both have a lash tint-like quality that darkens lashes without any clumpiness.

On days when I don't wear makeup but want to enhance my lashes in a low-key way, I reach for the Peripera Long Lash Curling Ink Black Cara. It gives my fringe some natural-looking oomph.

The formula is buildable, though, so you can easily use the Peripera Long Lash Curling Ink Black Cara for more dramatic, voluminous looks. You just have to be patient with it and layer it on. Eventually, your lashes will look visibly thicker and curled.

If you're in a rush but still want extremely luscious lashes, you'll probably prefer a mascara with quicker results like the Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara. But if you're into the my-lashes-but-better look, this mascara is definitely for you.

You can shop the Peripera Long Lash Curling Ink Black Cara now for $15 on cvs.com. As mentioned earlier, you can also find it in select CVS stores.
