K-State men’s basketball walk-on earns scholarship spot
MANHATTAN (KSNT) – K-State men’s basketball is giving a scholarship to one of its walk-on players, head coach Jerome Tang announced Thursday.
Taymont Lindsey, a senior from Kerens, Texas, earned a scholarship spot with the team for the rest of the 2023-24 season. He joined the Wildcats in August after playing his previous four seasons at Manhattan Christian College.
“I honestly couldn’t believe it,” Lindsey said in a press release from K-State Athletics. “Once I read those words that I was on scholarship my first reaction, first thought, was how blessed I am to be here and be a part of this program even before I wasn’t on scholarship, and I was just fine. It’s a blessing to receive that scholarship.”
He missed the first several games of the year with an injury, but Lindsey got his first minutes in a Wildcat uniform in K-State’s win over UCF on Jan. 6.
“He’s a very mature person,” Tang said in a press release from K-State Athletics. “He sees the big picture, he really embraces his role as a walk on, understands that he’s here to bring it every day in practice but really be another voice, another coaches’ voice in the locker room, very much like Nate [Awbrey] was last year.”
Similar to Lindsey, Nate Awbrey earned a scholarship spot with the ‘Cats for the final year of his career in 2022-23. Tang said it’s a blessing to have someone like Lindsey, and Awbrey, who is mature enough to understand their role and be a team leader.
Up next, K-State travels to Utah to take on new Big 12 foe BYU on Saturday, Feb. 10. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m.
